East Richmond Nurseries Inc. - ERNI - was established in 1987 by Peter and Jane Levelton on 25 acres on Westminster Highway in Richmond, B.C. From the start their goal was to offer only quality plants with unique and interesting character. While their nursery has grown considerably, the goals today remain the same.
Their son, Jason, started working in the nursery at the age of 14 and is now not only a shareholder in the company but also in charge of production.
The intention was to field grow specialty deciduous and grafted conifers. As the industry has evolved, so has ERNI. We now offer a wide range of plants from 4inch liners through large caliper shade trees.
Dawn is their daughter and she also began working in the family nursery in her early teens. She is now the Grower.
Our markets have changed also. In the beginning we planned to sell only to other wholesale nurseries. In 1991, we underwent a thorough revision in our business plan and decided that there was room to offer a comprehensive range of plant material to the commercial landscape trade in the Greater Vancouver area. We renovated an old dairy barn to include a sales office, production office and room for staff and equipment. Plus a sales yard was added with adequate room for large trucks to conveniently enter from a very busy highway and a loading dock to accommodate large shipments.
ERNI is now a leading supplier of plant material to landscapers, garden centers and wholesale nurseries not only in the Greater Vancouver area but also throughout British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.
